WS Film Series: My So-Called Enemy

Politics - Film/Video

Tuesday, February 5, 2013
7:00 PM-9:30 PM

Kennedy Memorial Hall/Public Safety

Assumption Colleges Womens Studies Department will host a special showing of My So-Called Enemy as part of its film series. The filmmaker Lisa Gossels will be present to introduce the film and engage in a Q & Q afterwards.

In July 2002, 22 Palestinian, Israeli and Palestinian Israeli teenage girls traveled to the United States to participate in a womens leadership program called Building Bridges for Peace. Some have lost friends and family members. All bear the psychological and emotional scars of living in a war zone. My So-Called Enemy tells the story of six of the girls and how their transformative experience in the program, of knowing their enemies as human beings, meets with the realities of their lives at home in the Middle East over the next seven years.

While My So-Called Enemy speaks to the humanity and complexities of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict in every frame, it is also a coming of age story that transcends the conflict. It shows how individual narratives can open hearts and minds, challenge long-held pre-conceptions, and create the space for dialogue, with the goal of creating more just societies here and abroad.

Cost: Free and open to the public.

Suggested Audiences: Middle School, High School, College, Adult, Elders
