Orchard House was the home of Louisa May Alcott and her family from 1858-1877. Visitors can still see the desk where she wrote her children's classic, Little Women, in 1868, which is based, in part, on her real life family members. The musuem includes two historic structures with nine period rooms and a changing exhibit area, which contain furniture, aritfacts and artwork that belonged to the Alcott family. Orchard House offers year round programming for schools and families that relates to the Alcotts, their famous friends and neighbors, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, and nineteenth century history.
