Description: History comes alive with this "living timeline" of armor and battle techniques throughout the centuries. Meet Viking warriors, and Roman legionnaires, medieval soldiers, 17th-century American colonists, and more.

10:45 am & 12:15 pm - Swordplay through the Ages Demonstration
Watch the Higgins Armory Sword Guild demonstrate the changing shape of swords and swordsmanship across the centuries, then join them in the Sword Guild training room for the hands-on workshop “Swordplay through the Ages.”

11:00 am & 12:30 pm - Swordplay through the Ages Workshop
Experience the arts of the swordsman as they evolved across the centuries. In this 1-hour workshop you will try your hand at the knightly longsword, the rapier, and the saber, sampling the elegant art of swordplay from the days when a person’s life might depend on their skill with a blade. No experience is needed, and all equipment is supplied. Workshop participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing with long pants and athletic footgear. Cost: $10. Class is open to age 14 and up, or age 10 if accompanied by a participating parent. Space is limited. For inquiries and reservations, contact the museum at (508) 853-6015.

Representing a company of 15th century Burgundian men-at-arms, this group employs period clothing and weaponry to offer a lively glimpse of arms and armor, society, and daily life in the late Middle Ages.

1:30 pm - Higgins Armory Sword Guild Combat Demonstrations
Have at you! Witness the subtle skills of attack, parry, and grapple, as the Higgins Armory Sword Guild brings to life the knightly arts of the sword and buckler, dagger, longsword, rapier, and halberd, revived from the long-lost words of medieval masters, as the Sword Guild recreates a medieval combat school.

2:00 pm - Viking Warrior Show
A dominant force in Europe for centuries, the Vikings still fascinate our contemporary world. Explore the culture, daily life, and military equipment of this legendary and fearsome society.

3:00 pm - Salem Trayn'd Band Pike Demonstration
Portraying colonists from Salem, MA in the 1600s demonstrating the use of Pikes.
