Description: The mixed shrub border is a versatile type of border that has many practical and property enhancing qualities that fit into any landscape plan. It uses a combination of evergreens for the backbone and structure of the border, flowering shrubs and pockets of perennials to add splashes of color throughout the growing season. Even annuals and bulbs can find a home in the mixed shrub border. The key is understanding which plants to use and how to combine them in a pleasing way. Mixed shrub borders can be used to create privacy, delineate property lines, to hide an unsightly structure or view, or just to enhance the view out your kitchen window. Weather permitting; we will tour the grounds of Tower Hill, as many wonderful examples of mixed shrub borders exist within the gardens.
