This class will not be so much choreography-based, but more learning the core of what your body can do and getting them down by repetition. Movements include but not limited to: Hip/chest slides, chest and hip rolls, hip circles, snake arms, chest lifts, undulations, mayas, taqsims, omis, shoulder shimmies, hip shimmies, basic steps and much more. There will be an emphasis on posture, framing, stage presence, isolation, building muscle memory, mastering staccato and cyclical movements, layering, and combining traditional and tribal style belly dance moves in new & innovative ways. Class will focus on drilling individual isolations and technique and combining them into mini choreographies. These short sassy dances are built for improvisational dance, but can be used and recreated for your own choreography. Can my body do that? Sure! Let's have fun! All ages, shapes and sizes welcome. Belly dance is not only great exercise, but also a great social event! Feel free to stop in and try it out! We have a nice group of women right now. We practice drills (repetition is key) in a non-threatening environment, work hard, sweat a lot and make up analogies about what our bodies are doing for each move.:) Mats are supplied and we'll be stretching on the floor. Wear comfy pants and a tight fitting top (no baggy T-shirts) so you can see your isolations. Bring water. Creative attire is encouraged. As we progress through the class, we will eventually learn Improvisational Tribal Style which helps the dancers "connect" to one another in a performance and move effortlessly like a school of fish.
