Description: | Join this docent-led discussion about artist Cecilia Beaux, led by docent Brad Barker. Famous art critic, Bernard Berenson, once attended an art exhibition and said, "I see many Sargents in the room. The ordinary ones are signed by John Singer Sargent. The best are signed by Cecelia Beaux." Cecelia Beaux was an extraordinary American artist specializing in portraiture of Gilded Age patrons. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to teach at the esteemed Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Often overshadowed by Impressionist Mary Cassatt, Realist Cecilia Beaux is relatively unknown today, but her large body of work is generally compared to John Singer Sargent and is highly regarded in the art world. She may be the most unknown of America's great artists. https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcpc-uvpj0uHdHJM44fak31dahuLzm7Gso3 |
