|Description:||Join us at the Park View Room as film archivist and early animation educator Tommy José Stathes travels from New York City with a selection of rare cartoons from the 1920s and 1930s, all curated from his personal archive of rare 16mm prints!
This presentation is a sampling of Tommy's monthly itinerant New York film screening series, the 16mm Cartoon Carnivaland it's also a celebration of this November's once-in-a-lifetime milestone in animation history: Felix the Cat's 100th birthday. An assortment of noteworthy original Felix cartoons from the silent era and early sound era will pay homage to the famous cat's earliest adventures, which endeared him to audiences the world over and made him the first animated cartoon superstar. Felix will be joined by some of his contemporaries of the period, such as George Herriman's Krazy Kat and Walt Disney's Julius the Cat, for a retrospective that's sure to entertain animation lovers, cinephiles, and fans of all things feline, regardless of age. Your attendance will help support Stathes' ongoing efforts to archive early animation history and preserve the increasingly rare experience of live 16mm film projection.
