Description: 02-132 IV Access/Care of Peripheral and Central Lines

Prerequisite: Must be a Licensed Nurse

Advisory rulings from the State of Massachusetts requires nurses to have further education when practicing IV therapy. This course includes basic anatomy and physiology as it relates to IV therapy, legal considerations, infection control, a brief history, and use of IV therapy, potential problems and complications of IV therapy, and reasons for differing sizes of IV’s. This course includes hands on practice.
Contact hours provided, must have a nurses license to get certificate of completion. Materials fee: $25 (cash only) payable to the instructor on the first night of class. Class is limited to 10 students. 2 weeks/8 hours

Jan Stephanos began her career in healthcare at the age of eighteen as a Nurse’s Aide. She then attended Worcester Technical Institute graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the age of twenty-five. Soon she realized she wanted to do much more with her career and returned to school graduating from Excelsior College in New York as a Registered Nurse then obtaining her CRNI credentials. Currently she works at UMass Memorial and teaches IV therapy.
