Description: Discover Irish culture during this live musical performance by Tim Loftus. Through traditional tunes, stories, and slide presentations, hell shed the shillelagh Irish of green beer, fake accents, and leprechauns to reveal some real Irish culture. Tim will be accompanied by Norah Garvey, Irish step-dancer.
During his performance you'll also discover how the banjo, a traditional African instrument, became so popular in traditional Irish bands; what the connection is between the Native American Choctaws and the Irish potato famine of the 1840s; and learn about the blind Irish harpist Turlough O'Carolan's tune Si Bheag, Si Mhor, the prettiest tune ever written.
Tim is an instrumentalist in the local traditional Irish bands of Banda Gan Anim and The
Doolin Lads, and is a frequent guest musician for the Quinebaug Valley Singers and at living assistance communities. During the day Tim is an environmental chemist. He resides in North Oxford with his rosemary plant.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
