Description: We know as much about Homers time in England as we do about the rest of his life, which is to say not very much. However, by comparing the art he made just before he left in 1881, with what he made on his return in 1883, we can see that in the year and a half in London and Cullercoats Homer perfected his use of color theory and his drawing skills. Considering Homers English work for changes in color and line, Judith Walsh, Professor Emerita of Paper conservation, SUNY Buffalo State College, will show that this period was critical to his later success as demonstrated in the great painting, The Gale, from the Worcester Art Museum collection.

The Worcester Art Museum's Master Series gives a close up look at one or two works by six signature artists. Exhibited in select galleries throughout the Museum, these intimate displays allow for contemplation and study of some of the world's most celebrated artists. Enjoy an art talk related to one of the featured Master Series artists, plus music, cash bar - and the company of other art enthusiasts!
