Description: | In collaboration with the 2013 Big Read, the Auburn Avenue Research Library will host a screening of the feature film adaptation of Ernest J. Gaines's novel, A Lesson before Dying, staring Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson, and Mekhi Phifer. After the screening, Dr. Lawrence Jackson of Emory University will facilitate a lecture on the novel and the literary legacy of Ernest J. Gaines. Ernest J. Gaines's A Lesson before Dying offers a painful yet inspirational tale of institutional injustice and personal redemption and addresses the biggest theme possiblehow one affirms life in the face of death. | |
