Description: We will welcome guests Susan Elizabeth Sweeney, a poet, and Paige Reynolds, a scholar of Irish literature, who both teach English at the College of the Holy Cross. They will share some favorite Irish poems and literary insights while we sip. Hot teas, warm Irish soda bread, and cookies. Drop-in (4-5pm); before Choral Evensong, 5-5:45 pm. No reservation required. (Please email Barbara Geremia at if you have questions or need to reserve table space for a large group.) Proceeds benefit the All Saints Choirs Tour of Ireland.
Susan Elizabeth Sweeneys poems and translations have appeared in Diner, The Worcester Review, The Journal of Irish Literature, and elsewhere, and received awards including an Academy of Poets Prize, the Frank OHara Poetry Prize, and recognition as a semifinalist in the New Womens Voices Chapbook Competition. Her chapbook, Hand Me Down, will come out from Finishing Line Press next summer.  Beth is now writing a series of poems about her namesake, Mad Sweeney--an exiled king, poet, and madman who is a major figure in Irish folklore.
Paige Reynolds teaches modern and contemporary Irish literature in the Department of English at the College of the Holy Cross.  She is the author of Modernism, Drama, and the Audience for Irish Spectacle (Cambridge UP, 2007) and editor of a special issue of the journal Eire-Ireland entitled "Irish Things" (Spring Summer 2011).  She has published on topics related to modernism, theatre and performance in Ireland, and film, and is currently completing a study entitled "Colleen Modernism: Modernism's Afterlife in Contemporary Irish Women's Writing."
