Description: In collaboration with the 2013 Big Read the Auburn Avenue Research Library will host a screening of the feature film adaptation of Ernest J. Gainess novel A Lesson Before Dying staring Don Cheadle, Cicely Tyson and Mekhi Phifer. Dr. Lawrence Jackson of Emory University will facilitate a lecture on the novel and the literary legacy of Ernest J. Gaines after the film screening. Ernest J. Gaines's novel A Lesson Before Dying offers a painful yet inspirational tale of institutional injustice and personal redemption and addresses the biggest theme possible - how one affirms life in the face of death.
