Description: | Tuition and Fees: Student Fee: $199.00 Studio Fee: $15.00 (Required) This class will cover the forging of steel into blades and the techniques used. We will discuss different types of materials to forge as well as heat-treating techniques: full hardening, differential hardening, clay coating and tempering. Also covered are the various types of blade grinds like flat, hollow, and convex. Each student will complete one knife using both machine shop and common hand tools. This is a hands-on course and students will come away with both a quality finished product as well as a range of skill and knowledge. All materials will be available for purchase through the instructor. Open to all skill levels. Blade materials cost $5 per foot. |
