Description: | The first evening in this years weekly Lenten series offers space for quietness and reflection, with music from 16th century England by Morley, Farrant, and Byrd. Evensong, (similar to Vespers in the Roman Catholic and the Lutheran Churches) is an offering in song adopted as an American tradition in many parishes and cathedrals of the Episcopal Church. Atmospheric and deeply personal, Evensong appeals to persons of many faiths as well as to the non-religious contemplative. The music is sung by a Choir, and the listeners may meditate on the praises, prayers and petitions which the Choir offers. The timeless and simple liturgy readily embraces musical expressions from many centuries. |
