| Description: | Mary Chapin Carpenter provides the best insight into Carrie Newcomer: "I love Carrie Newcomer. She writes and sings about what is most personal to her and in doing so she speaks to the wider world. Her song 'Geodes' will make you catch your breath with its wisdom and beauty." Carrie Newcomer is difficult to define, one of the definitive voices of the Heartland. The Indiana native sings of the small joys and pains in life, emphasizing the little moments that are often taken for granted. She also takes on serious subjects, with a measure of humor and self-awareness. The Dallas Morning News wrote, "She's the kind of artist whose music makes you stop, think and then say, 'that is so true.'" The Austin Statesman described Carrie's voice "as rich as Godiva chocolate." Newcomer has toured with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Alison Kraus and also worked with Nickel Back. As Rolling Stone wrote, "Newcomer asks all the right questions and refuses to settle for easy answers." Newcomer, a Quaker, says "I have a real fascination with the mystery, with the questions that have no answers." Her work cuts across secular and spiritual boundaries, and she is one of a relatively few well-known singer-songwriters working within the progressive spiritual continuum. |
