Description: The New Yorker called her "one of Americas very best singer-songwriters." Her beautiful voice and evocative songs certainly drive home the point. But her razor sharp wit and unique sense of humor are also some of the best parts of her shows. Once, with the crowd laughing hard, it seemed impossible to go into the quiet ballad she had planned next. So she told a story about how her father had once kept bees. And they would stand in silence together while he smoked those bees. The crowd hushed, and she said, "I think were there now," and began the song.

She is now set to release her ninth studio album, "In The Time Of Gods", on Razor & Tie in April 17, and it's her first album of original material in four years. Produced by Kevin Killen and featuring special guests Shawn Colvin and Larry Campbell, it hosts a remarkable set of musicians including Charley Drayton, Gerry Leonard, and Rob Hyman. This inimitable collection of songs includes some of the richest and most evocative writing of Williams' career.
From an upstart neo-folkie to a seasoned artist who's also a community-involved wife, mother and "involved neighbor," her work has weathered the long-haul and "the songs do better for having that kind of weight to them." Her greatest gift as a writer is her ability to get inside the heads of her characters, no matter how removed their mindsets and values are from her own, doing so with consistent and sometimes surprising compassion. At the same time, shes piercingly honest when looking at her own life. And throughout her career shes remained fully capable of laughing at herself, as she expresses her observations and emotions in a consistently relatable way. "My big secret," Williams says, with a twinkle in her eye, "is that we are gonna make it, but we'll be the last to know."
