For more on Dag Hammarskjold, go to http://www.un.org/depts/dhl/dag/oralhist.htm Annika Savill is Deputy Executive Head of the United Nations Democracy Fund, UNDEF, a trust fund under the UN Secretary-General which works to strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes. She previously served in the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General from 1997 to 2008, working under Ban Ki-moon and Kofi A. Annan as a senior speechwriter and member of the Secretary-General's communications team. In that capacity, she maintained a special focus on the legacy of Dag Hammarskjöld and has written a number of speeches on the topic. Prior to joining the United Nations, she had a 15-year career as a journalist, serving with the Associated Press, Reuters and The Independent, where she was a founder member and Diplomatic Editor. Michiko Kuroda (Ms.) (M.A.)International Mediator at the United Nations, and Certified Mediator in NY State. Former Chief of Staff at United Nations peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions in Timor-Leste. Her other experience includes: Senior Management Analyst in Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Senior Conflict Management Officer in the Ombudsman's Office, Program Manager, Capacity Development Program, Headquarters Committee on Contracts. Currently, she teaches at Mercy College as Adjunct Professor. Board Member of the Institute of Mediation and Conflict Resolution, Bronx. Her publications include Early Warning and Conflict Resolution,(co-editor), McMillan & St.Martin's Press, London & New York, 1992. Studied in Belgium, USA, Switzerland, in addition to her studies in Japan.
