| Description: | For 40 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signed to Columbia records in 1969, he immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues. In '68 Rolling Stone called him "the hottest item outside Janis Joplin". Shifting between simple country blues to all-out electric slide guitar blues-rock, Johnny has always been one of the most respected singers and guitar players in rock and the clear link between British blues-rock and American Southern Rock. Throughout the '70s and '80s, Johnny was the unofficial torch-bearer for the blues, championing and aiding the careers of his idols like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Working with brother Edgar and Rick Derringer, Johnny put out some of the most consistently hard-rockin' blues of the decade. His appearance at Eric Clapton's 2007 Crossroads Festival with Derek Trucks, Buddy Guy and Clapton has been immortalized on the Emmy award winning DVD. On his new CD, "Roots", Johnny goes back to songs that helped shape his legendary talent. Guest players on the new CD include, Vince Gill, Warren Haynes, John Popper, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. Also, Volume 7 of the acclaimed "Johnny Winter Live Bootleg Series" has just been releaseed and is already in the top 15 on the Billboard Blues charts. The CD contains special liner notes by Warren Haynes. The tradition of the Texas guitar slinger runs deep, from T-Bone Walker and Clarence Gatemouth Brown to Albert Collins, Freddie King, Billy Gibbons and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. The one name that ranks at the top of that exclusive list is Johnny Winter, an international ambassador for rocking Texas blues and still going strong! To say that Johnny is "back" would be an understatement. In fact, he never left. He is just better than ever. Open: Stevie Silver and the Westsiders - Fresh from the release of his new CD Juke Box Baby with Grammy nominated guitarist Duke Robillard, Stevie Silver comes to The Bull Run with his band The Westsiders for an evening of finger snapping, foot stomping, rockin blues. |
