| Description: | In recognition of 2011 National AIDS Day (December 1, 2011), the Auburn Avenue Research Library will host a segment of The NAMES Project Foundation AIDS Memorial Quilt. Throughout its 20 year history, the Quilt has been used to fight prejudice, raise awareness and funding, as a means to unite the African-American and global communities in the fight against AIDS. The NAMES Project Foundation is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, where the Quilt is also warehoused and continues to grow. It currently consists of more than 46,000 individual memorial panels (over 91,000 people) and weighs an estimated 54 tons. | |
