| Description: | Instructor: Robert Moll To Explore the world photographically in a unique way, the great photographers developed a way of "seeing differently." If you continually find yourself taking the same shots over and over, this class is designed for you. We will utilize new ways to look beyond the constraints of the traditional. Subject matter can be found as easily in a reflection, a corner, a gap or an abstract, as it can be found in a vase of flowers, a landscape or a portrait. Tower Hill offers us a tangible working playground with its unique meeting of the natural world and that of inspirational artisans. Though our goal will not be to create abstract photographers out of each of you, we will explore the form, light, perspective and then the mood and expression of what a photo communicates. Great artists always learn and borrow from other artists. We will look at works by impressionists and abstract painters for the painter's perspective. After all, "they" have been using our cameras for years to capture what they see to recreate or reconstruct or deconstruct in their studios. I think it's time we photographers returned the favor and think of our cameras as our brushes and pallet, to create our own provocative, stark or beautiful imagery. Photo manipulation techniques will be introduced as a useful tool; however it will not be the thrust of the class. Digital photography as its own art form is our aim. You will want a USB Travel Drive (or "flash" drive) to bring your work to class. You are urged to bring a few of your favorite photos to the first class as a fun way to introduce yourselves. Because of the time needed to view and analyze everyone's work properly, class size is limited to 10. |
