| Description: | Gypsy Fusion Bellydance: Intermediate Level with Dina, Tuesdays 7-8:30pm This fun class teaches the whole spectrum of Dinas particular brand of Gypsy Style Bellydance, which includes elements of Turkish Romany, American Tribal, Spanish Flamenco, Folkloric Dance, and Cabaret Fusion Bellydance. The first half hour of class will focus on the art of zill (finger cymbal) playing, including various rhythms, speeds, and patterns. The second half hour of class will include stretching, warmups, and bellydance drills, plus movement vocabulary that is essential to learning our Gypsy Fusion choreographies. The last half hour of class focuses on choreographies, skirt work, the use of props, gestures, theatrical characterization, and other important aspects of performance. Well dance to many exciting world music flavors, including Greek, Turkish, Spanish, African, Arabic, Indian, Romany/Gypsy, and Modern Fusion. Performance opportunities (optional) will be offered at student recitals and/or haflas. Please bring zills and a long, full, Gypsy style skirt to each class. Previous bellydance experience *is* required; if you know the basics and are ready for more, then come join us for this unique and passionate style of dance! American Cabaret Veil Dance with Sabrina, Wednesdays 7-8:30pm Sabrina says: "Soft, feminine, airy, floating, pale, light, pleasant, spring, pastel, pink and white. These are the words that come to mind when thinking about the choreography I am about to teach you in my next series of classes at The Dancing Gypsy. This is an original choreography that I am teaching you, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!" Class is mixed level; the music used will be "Sadikni" by Jehan Kamal, Youssef Kassab, Taala Taal Belly Dance. Please wear yoga or workout attire, a hip scarf, and bring a veil. Some veils are available for purchase in the shop as well. Bellydance Basics with Dina, Thursdays 7-8:30pm This is a class for the beginner bellydancer who wishes to learn all aspects of the dance, as well as get a great dance workout at the same time. Included will be Yoga-based stretching and strengthening exercises, bellydance movement drills and isolations, simple bellydance choreographies, and also basic instruction on how to play the zills (finger cymbals). Students will be introduced to the essential rhythms and movements found in many bellydance genres, including American Cabaret, American Tribal, Fusion, and Turkish style bellydance. If you have never bellydanced before and/or have little experience, then this class is for you. This is also a good workout or review for dancers who are coming back to the art form after a break. No special attire is required other than workout clothing and a hip scarf. Zills will be available for purchase if needed. *NOTES* : Pre-registration is required for all classes. All fees are due the first day of class, with checks made payable to each teacher. Cost is $90 for 6 weeks (Each class is 1.5 hours for $15.) Drop-in rate is $18 per class. Classes are open to adults of all ages (18+), and all body types. However, students will assume any risks inherent in taking an exercise class, and should choose the class that best fits their skill level and physical abilities. |
