Description: Phoolan Devi was an iconic figure in modern India whose journey ~ from child bride to bandit queen to politician, assassinated in 2001 at the age of 37 ~ was unprecedented. Shirish Korde's and Lynn Kremers multi-media chamber opera dramatizes the life of a woman who achieved near mythical status in her own lifetime. The musicians of the Boston Musica Viva, under the direction of Richard Pittman, are joined by the Pakistani-Canadian soprano Zorano Sadiq (as Phoolan), master tabla artist Maditya Kalyanpur, and an ensemble of Holy Cross students.
