| Description: | Were your Viking raids unsuccessful last summer? Were you bullied by a berserk at the last winter feast? Do you have a hólmganga duel coming up and want to sharpen your fighting skills? If so, then join us to learn some of the combat skills of medieval Europe's most fearsome warriors: the Vikings. The course is a active, hands-on workshop consisting of four 2-hour sessions at Higgins Armory Museum. Students will learn some of the basics of fighting with a sword and large shield, based on reconstructions of Viking fighting techniques developed at the Higgins Armory Museum. Using a variety of drills and exercises, students will also learn basic safety principles and historical combat fundamentals that are required to join the Sword Guild and which are applicable to a wide variety of historical martial arts. No experience is required, and all needed equipment is supplied. Participants must be 18 years of older, or 14 with a participating parent. The fee is $100 for museum members, $125 for non-members, and pre-registration is required.
