Description: According to Snyder, his recent body of work includes abstracted figure studies of boxers and fighters presented as metaphors for and studies of conflict, challenge, fear, violence and primal instincts in personal, group and even national dynamics. The other body of work is architectural in focus, presented in a fairly contemporary style. These are mainly derived from photos taken while traveling and reflect influence of heroes such as Hopper and Bellows and a lifelong interest in and appreciation for historic architecture. Snyders life experiences and environment are reflected in his work, which are being generated in an expanding assortment of media as his studies progress. Snyder commented, the image on the wall is a component of the experience, but the goal of the work is to generate mental imagery unique to the viewer. If sufficient visual interest is created for the viewer to briefly disengage and consider an alternate perspective of his or her own experience, its a successful piece in my eyes. The message and the experience will likely vary from viewer to viewer. I actually hope it does.
