| Description: | Join us at the Shrewsbury Public Library for a FREE film festival showing classics and modern films dealing with different wars. This festival is a part of the 2009 Big Read Project. Selections begin at 7PM on Fridays, with the exception of holiday weeks. Come to as many as you can! Full schedule below: Friday, November 13 - "Friendly Persuasion" - Family-oriented film starring Gary Cooper, Dorothy McGuire and Anthony Perkins. A Quaker family comes to grips with the Civil War. Friday, November 20th - "All Quiet on the Western Front" - Classic World War I film, starring Louis Wolheim, Lewis Ayres and John Wray. Based on the book by Erich Maria Remarque. Friday, November 27th - NO FILM DUE TO HOLIDAY WEEKEND Friday, December 4th - "Casablanca" - Classic World War II film, starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid and Peter Lorre. A story of diverse individuals in Casablanca, North Africa, having fled the Nazis. Friday, December 11th - "M.A.S.H." - A comedy about the outrageous antics of three young surgeons drafted for service during the Korean War. Stars Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould and Tom Skerritt. This film is rated R. Friday, December 18th - "We Were Soldiers" - A 2002 film about exceptional heroism during the Pleiku Campaign of late 1965, part of the Vietnam War. Stars Mel Gibson, Madeleine Stowe, Greg Kinnear, and Sam Elliott. This film is rated R. Friday, December 25th & January 1st - NO FILMS DUE TO HOLIDAYS Friday, January 8th - "Home of the Brave" - Current film about survivors of an ambush in Iraq, who handle their return to civilian life in their own ways. Stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jessica Biel, Brian Presley, Curtis Jackson and Chad Michael Murray. This film is rated R. |
