| Description: | On Saturday, December 19, the museums first Holiday Family Day will feature seasonally-related activities for adults and children. Throughout the day, visitors may take in one of several Spotlight Tours highlighting Saint Nicholas icons offered by museum docents, pick up a copy of the museums free award-winning Family Gallery Guide, and color a New Years card featuring Grandfather Frost and Snowflake. From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, kids 8 and up and their parents can make a clay Saint Nicholas holiday ornament with decorative artist Anne Giancola. Space is limited. A time-specific ticket, at a cost of $5 per person, may be purchased at the front desk. At 11:00 am, the childrens folk music club Zhavoronushki (Little Larks), under the direction of Ghilyana Dordzhieva, will present a cultural program of Russian Orthodox hymns, traditional songs, and dances. At 3:00 pm, adults will enjoy a special free lecture with icon specialist Fay Peponis, who will describe how Sanctity, Symbolism and Spirituality are revealed this 2000-year-old tradition of sacred art. Museum visitors will also have their final opportunity to take advantage of the Museum Shop 20% Off EVERYTHING sale for holiday gift giving, including books, artworks and fine jewelry. |
