This beginning course is designed for people who plan to tour or work in China. Students will learn some of the most useful daily Mandarin words, phrases, and sentences for various situations.

Topics include:

* Meeting People
* Numbers
* Eating Out
* Shopping and Bargaining
* Getting Around
* Talking about Your Family and Friends
* Asking for Help

PINYIN (the basic Mandarin pronunciation system), the four tones, and basic grammar will be gradually introduced in the course, as will Chinese culture, food and traditions. Students will have many opportunities to practice listening to and speaking Chinese.
