The American Antiquarian Society, founded in 1812, is the third oldest historical society in the United States and the first to be national in its purpose and the scope of its collections. Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, AAS maintains a library of American history and culture in order to collect, preserve, and make available for study the printed and manuscript record of the United States through the year 1876. The library's collection of materials printed in what is now the United States from the establishment of a press in 1639 through 1820 is the best in the world, and its holdings of American printed materials dating from 1821 through 1876 are among the strongest anywhere. Tours are held Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m.

The Mission of the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery is to promote and to support the intellectual and cultural life of College of the Holy Cross. Through its exhibitions and acquisitions, both historical and contemporary, the Gallery serves as a catalyst for the search for meaning and value in life and history, and as a venue to stimulate dialogue about questions related to the Mission of the College. The Cantor Gallery has special responsibility for integrating the liberal arts values of the College and the classroom by linking exhibitions to the broader curriculum. Through Gallery exhibitions, Holy Cross educates members of the College community, the Worcester community, and the larger community of scholars and artists about the fundamental intellectual, cultural, spiritual, and aesthetic issues encountered through art. Traveling exhibitions, loan exhibitions, exhibitions of the permanent collection or of site-specific works are selected according to the guiding principles of the Gallery. Similarly, acquisitions for the permanent collection are made on the basis of a work's role in supporting the Mission of the Gallery and the College.

EcoTarium

Set in an urban oasis of woodlands and wetlands, EcoTarium is a unique indoor-outdoor museum that allows adults and children to discover firsthand the wonders of the natural world. Three floors of interactive environmental science exhibits, wildlife habitats, extensive grounds, and planetarium explore the earth, sea and sky. Meet live animals, stroll interpretive trails, ride the train, or walk among the treetops 40 feet above ground. Admission: $10.00 adults, and $8.00 for children ages 3-16, college students with IDs and senior citizens. Children under 3 and EcoTarium members free. Additional charges apply for Tree Canopy Walkway, Explorer Express Train, planetarium programs and other special programs. Seasonal outdoor café and Museum Store located on site. EcoTarium offers a year-round calendar of events and exhibits. Jazz at Sunset summer outdoor concert series, June-July. Parking is free.

Higgins Armory Museum

The only Museum dedicated to Russian Icons in America. Over 330 magnificent Russian icons from the 15th century to the present. Salisbury Mansion

The Salisbury Mansion was built in 1772 by Stephen Salisbury I and is recognized as a major historical resource. It is one of the few remaining 18th century buildings in Worcester and is one of the most documented houses in New England. The home has been restored to re-create the home life of the Salisbury Family in the 1830s.

A living museum of plants, featuring a 3,000 square-foot Orangerie [greenhouse] filled with flowering subtropical plants, citrus and palm trees, seasonal displays, and special events. Dozens of educational and artistic programs for adults and youths, some eligible for college credit. Open Tues-Sun, 10 am-5pm and holiday Mondays. Twigs Cafe serves lunch 11am-3pm. Worcester Center for Crafts

The Worcester Center for Crafts is a unique destination providing the largest regional visual arts gallery, a gallery gift store, and studios for contemporary American craft education. The George and Anna Krikorian Gallery is over 2,200 square feet. It's mission is to exhibit prominent visual artists from around the United States, to educate and enrich the public about the nature crafts and craftmanship, and to encourage the use of hand made objects in daily life. The Center for Crafts also hosts a number of events each year including the Annual Festival of Crafts over Thanksgiving weekend and the Annual Pottery Invitational Show and Sale every April.
