This presentation will provide a general overview of the National Response Framework for national emergencies involving radiological and nuclear materials. It will cover federal, state and local responsibilities during these emergencies and how the national response, public protective actions and related recommendations could differ depending on whether the emergency is due to a nuclear power plant, radiological dispersal device (RDD) or an improvised nuclear device (IND). The presentation will also include considerations for first responders in their selection of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for such emergencies.
