The purpose of this presentation is to bring space travel closer to ordinary people as something that is relevant and feasible. The talk will cover basic knowledge of space, brief history of space travel, reasons for lack of progress in the last few decades, and some recent exciting developments in the field. More specifically, the topics include benefits of space travel, hazards of space travel, principles of current rockets, privatization of space travel enterprise, and possible alternative sources for rocket propulsion such as using earths magnetic field, superconductors and quantum locking, solar sails, and space elevator. This presentation will include multimedia and lively discussions. Survey will be administered.

Refreshments will be served in Olin Hall 118 at 3:30 P.M.
