Presenter: Dr. Lily Poulikakos, Senior Scientist Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology

Dr. Lily Poulikakos received her bachelor of science (B.S.) in Architectural Engineering in 1981 from the University Colorado, Boulder. After working for seven years in the private sector, she obtained her Master's degree (M.S.) in civil engineering in 1995 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. From 1998 to 2001, she worked as a research engineer at the institute for mechanics of ETH, Zurich. She received her Dr sc. (PhD) in 2011 from the department of civil engineering of ETH Zurich focusing on multi scale characterization of porous asphalt. Since 2001 she has worked at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology of the ETH domain, laboratory for road engineering/sealing component. She is currently a senior scientist leading the research focus area multi-scaling and microstructure of road materials. Her research focus is on the one hand on monitoring the environmental footprint of heavy vehicles and on the other on multi-scale characterization of asphalt concrete.
