Speaker: Robert H. (Rusty) Russell, J.D., AICP
Bio: Rusty Russell is a faculty member in the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (UEP) at Tufts University, and is also a member of the steering committee for their Water:Systems, Science and Society (WSSS) Program. He teaches courses on water policy, environmental law, environmental policy, and field research. His background includes work as a government policymaker, journalist, corporate lawyer, nonprofit consultant and environmental advocate.
This talk will summarize the legal and political framework of important water regulation in this country, looking particularly at water pollution, drinking water safety, groundwater management, wetlands protection and water rights. It also will briefly examine what is perhaps the most pressing domestic environmental issue of the moment: hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and its impact on water resources.
