Grants, scholarships, and fellowships are among the most important tools that students can use to support themselves during undergraduate or graduate studies. Some provide tuition or cover related costs such as books; others provide a stipend or one-time cash grant; and some provide funds for specific activities, such as travel grants. This presentation will go over types of awards, requirements of most awards, and tips on preparing materials for applications. Specific award programs, including Fulbright grants, the WPI Koerner Fellowship, and the NSF Graduate Fellow Research Program will be discussed, as well as summer internship programs such as the NIST SURF program. In the past, the speaker was a recipient of the Department of Educations GAANN fellowship, a Fulbright grant, a Koerner Fellowship, a National Research Council Research Associateship, and a postdoctoral travel award.
