Abstract: In this talk I will focus on an ongoing program concerning regularity, existence and uniqueness of critical points of variational functionals which extend the classical notion of p-energy to the broader setting of sub-Riemannian geometry, allowing for very rough ambient space geometry. I will also mention some of the applications of this work to control theory and to image processing.
