Donatella Danielli (Purdue University)-Analytic and geometric properties of some variational inequalities and PDEs
Mathematics - Colloquium
Tuesday, January 29, 2013
11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Stratton Hall
203
Abstract: In this talk I will present some topics at the forefront of current research in geometric PDEs of both elliptic - or subelliptic - and parabolic type. In particular, I will discuss models characterized by constrained dynamics (i.e., where motion is only allowed along a limited set of directions), and variational inequalities of obstacle type. The problems described not only arise in a number of mathematical context (for instance optimal control theory, mathematical finance, and geometry), but are also of interest in applied sciences such as mechanical engineering, robotics, and neurophysiology.
