Mathematics - Colloquium

ABSTRACT: Recently, I was prompted to compile on my blog a list of ongoing projects when a member of my group asked for a new topic. After some reflection, I identified twelve projects with students and collaborators, in areas including rigorous probabilistic proofs for data assimilation algorithms in finite and infinitely dimensional spaces, applications of spatial statistics, web development, numerical methods, high-performance computing software development, and validation of physical models. In this talk, I will review some of the projects and the existing results from the perspective of the current overall research directions, which are data assimilation methods and numerical modeling of wildfires. I will also show the IT infrastructure supporting a dispersed research group and work with students.
