The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, formed in 1879 as the Shanghai Band, developed into an orchestra to promote Western music in Asia, and has been called "the best in the Far East". Pianist Yuja Wang has debuted with the N.Y. Phil, and the Chicago, Houston and San Francisco symphonies to critical acclaim. Performance will be works of Mussorsky, Rachmaninoff and a very special 2nd half of concert featuring an extraordinary concerto or full orchestra, traditional instruments of China, and soprano, by Chen Qigang - not to be missed! A free, pre-concert Talk begins at 7 PM.
Cost: $46, $43, students $20 advance/$15 at door, call for groups
