Announcing regularly scheduled FREE tours (donations accepted) at the Gallery of African Art, every Thursday, beginning Thursday, January 3, 2013. Musician and ethnomusicology expert Zach Combs of Crocodile River Music will offer informal tours of the Gallery collection of more than 500 African tribal artifacts, as well as an African drum demonstration.
Throughout May 2013, 1st three visitors each Thursday from 3-7pm, receive a 1 month trial membership at Ciccone Family Fitness Center!From time to time, the free tour will include 2 additional participants. African art specialist Sulaymane Berete will offer further insights into the Gallerys collection. Master Djembe drummer, Issa Coulibaly originally from Mali, West Africa, a dynamic performer who teaches at Brown University and Connecticut College, (issacoulibaly.com) will provide traditional drum demonstrations with hands-on involvement for younger tour participants throughout the program.
The Gallery of African Art established by art collector Gordon B. Lankton, is an educational museum display comprising a collection of more than 500 African tribal masks, figures, sculpture and artifacts crafted in stone, wood, clay and bronze, spanning 32 tribes, including Dogon, Baule and Bamana art. The collection is representative of predominantly West African tribes and traditions.
Cost: Tur is FREE, donations accepted
