Bette Midler from her bath house days meets Marilyn Monroe meets Dean Martin. Meet Niki Luparelli, your new favorite chanteuse, which is a fancy French word for "lounge singer." Niki is also one half of the World Famous Steamy Bohemians and co-founder/producer of the highly acclaimed variety show JERKUS CIRCUS.
The internationally-ignored Niki, now in her early-late twenties, went to the University of Rhode Island where she graduated summa cum laude with a double major in Music and Communications. This degree proved to be as useful as a degree in pinball.
She then spent much of her time languishing away in many unexciting and unrelated dayjobs, including, but not limited to; waitress, bartender, teacher, real state agent, freelance writer, and gardener. During this time, Niki was attempting to work her way up through the Boston stand-up comedy ranks.
After a few years of honing her wit on hecklers, drunks, and bachelorette parties, she hooked up with fellow URI music grad, Lainey Schulbaum, and began their musical comedy duo act, "The Steamy Bohemians." The Steamy Bohemians are what would happen if the Smothers Brothers were comely large breasted women. On the side, however, Niki dreamed of becoming Jessica Rabbit, or Gilda, or Mae West. She's had a lot of dreams.
Niki's first performance as her pulling-stuff-out-of-her-bra Cabaret singer was in 2002, at the long running Larry Lee Lewis Vaudeville Revue at the Nexus Theater in Somerville, Ma. She received acclaim for her role as the "luscious lounge singer sprawled atop the piano"- Improper Bostonian Best of Issue, 2002
Currently, you can see Niki performing regularly with Dan Burke and the Gold Diggers (sometimes known as the Speakeasy Combo) all over New England and sometimes New York. Check out her schedule here. Niki is also as a hula hooping, pink ukulelel-ing stand-up comedienne, freelance writer, bleach aficionado, and Boston's premier Marilyn impersonator.
