Create presents the work of twenty artists with developmental disabilities who have been active at one of three pioneering studios: Oaklands Creative Growth Art Center, Creativity Explored in San Francisco, and NIAD Art Center in Richmond. Including painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, photography, and text-based art, Create reveals nearly three decades of remarkable work from these small but inuential artistic communities. This exhibition is curated by Lawrence Rinder, director of UC Berkeley Art Museum and Matthew Higgs, director of White Columns NYC, organized by BAM and Independent Curators International. Due to its scope -- over one hundres works by 20 artists -- the exhibition will be presented in two installments: August 29 - October 6 and October 22 - December 8. This program has been supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
