Book Talk Description
Drawing from her own experience launching Living into Art, Journeys Through Collage, Whiting covers topics of interest to self-publishers including planning a book, fundraising, and successful marketing. Attendees will hear how Whiting developed her manuscript with the help of a crackerjack editor, raised over $10,000 to fund the printing, and how she promoted her book at 30 events in its first two years.
Using her greeting card company Paper Lantern as her platform, Whiting publicized Living into Art through her print catalog and websiteto customers including independent bookstores, new age and metaphysical markets and other specialty retailers such as spas, and meditation and retreat centers. She also signed with two bricks-and-mortar distributors willing to take on her single title: Partners West Book Distributing in Washington state, and New Leaf, a leading distributor of new age products in Georgia. Her book is carried on Amazon, B&N.com, and other online bookstores and niche sites on collage and arts and crafts.
Living into Art won first place in USA Book News National Best Books art category for 2008, was a finalist in ForeWords Book of the Year 2008, and was chosen as Honorable Mention in the inspirational category of the 17th Annual Writers Digest International Self-Published Book Awards.
