Raku means joy or pleasure and also describes a process of firing pottery that originated in Japan. This class will explore the varied techniques of raku, a fast-fire process in which the ware is pulled red hot from the kiln and placed in a container with combustible materials such as sawdust, leaves, straw or newspaper. Colored slips and a variety of glazes will be used. Participants will partake in all aspects of the firing process. While the emphasis is on firing, forming techniques will also be addressed. All levels are welcome! Limited to 12 students.

Students should be prepaired to participate in firings with the instructors guidance.
