ART FROM THE HEART
A Juried Art Exhibit by Artists With Intellectual Disabilities
Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, in partnership with Seven
Hills Foundation, and VSA Massachusetts, will present a unique art show, Art From The Heart, on
exhibit at Nu Café, 335 Chandler Street, Worcester, MA 01602, through the month of May.
Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services is proud to bring Art From The Heart to Worcester for
the first time to showcase the talents of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their ability to communicate
through art. This collection of art work will be celebrated during an opening reception to be held on Sunday,
May 6, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., free and open to the public. Highlights to include a Meet the Artist
presentation, light refreshments and musical entertainment by Ricardo C. Coloma Ayala on a string instrument
called the cuatro, and Michael Hancock on keyboard.
The Art From The Heart exhibit is a collaboration between, the Massachusetts Department of Developmental
Services, Seven Hills Foundation, VSA Massachusetts and Self Advocates, who worked together to organize
this show with the intent to share the talents of these artists.
"It is amazing what children and adults with special needs can do. They can put their time and talent
into creating amazing art work," says Self-Advocate, Karen Cusick, "I feel happy when I create art."
Art From The Heart will be on display through the month of May at Nu Café, Monday-Friday: 7:00
a.m.-9:00 p.m., Saturday: 8:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m., and Sunday: 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
