Look through the artifacts, specimens, and equipment that the professor sends back in mysteriously marked crates and cases. Discover where the professor must have traveled in order to unearth such items as a Yeti, a Gargoyle skeleton, and the Argonaut probe.

Worcester Art Museum, 55 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA
Intaglio, a word derived from an Italian verb meaning "to incise," is used in English to describe a family of print making techniques. For centuries the intaglio processes of engraving, etching, drypoint, and aquatint reproduced pictorial images providing the finest detail. This exhibition presents a selection of Italian prints that reflect the history of intaglio printmaking, from its inception in the fourteenth century through the era of its domination of printed pictures in the eighteenth century. These original works of art present a rich and fascinating range of subjects and styles, from the Renaissance through the Rococo period. Among the printmakers whose work will be included in this exhibition are Giulio Campagnola, Marcantonio Raimondi, Annibale Carracci, Salvator Rosa, Pietro Testa, Giambattista Tiepolo, and Giovanni Battista Piranesi.
Cost: Free with Museum admission.
A hybrid of photography, drawing, etching, sculpture and digital design, Actions Speak examines the frustrated relationships between government, and the news media pertaining to often unmentionable topics of brutality, domestic violence, HIV and AIDS. In Actions Speak, the artist duo THINK AGAIN takes on taboo social topics and raises the questions: How does policy affect individuals? Who is allowed to speak and who lives with the consequences? Nationally renowned artists and THINK AGAIN co-founders, S.A. Bachman and David John Attyah, are known for social issue art, which can be a platform for intellectual dialogue and can inspire individuals to social action. This project features a 67-foot interior wall mural in the museum's Renaissance Court, and a concurrent outdoor projection.

Upcoming projections:
2009 - Sept 17, Oct 15, Nov 19, Dec 17
2010 - Jan 21, Feb 18, March 18
Artists discover their inspiration in exceptional places, and retired Atlantic Union College art professor Roger Preston found his at the Museum of Russian Icons.

Preston's exhibition of twelve, small-scale, devotional paintings opening October 1, 2009 at a gala reception, 4-7pm at the Museum of Russian Icons is inspired by the Museums collection of more than 350 icons and will represents the first contemporary display since the Museums opening in 2007. The opening reception will include remarks by Atlantic Union College President Norman L. Wendth at 5:30pm, followed by Museum CEO Kent dur Russell, with a tour of the exhibition by the artist at 6pm.

These Festival icons, or those reflecting significant feasts of the Orthodox Church, reflect the traditional craft, themes and structure of this sacred Russian art form. The paintings merge traditional tempera on wood techniques with contemporary mixed mediaincluding computer generated drawings to create a fresh, modern look at devotional works intended to inspire and reflect deeply-held and personal spiritual beliefs.

This first contemporary exhibition launches a new program of working with artists interested inand their interpretation of the Museum of Russian Icons collected works.

Preston commented, "The museum creates a wonderful setting to develop creative ideas mutually intended for the artist as well for an observers artistic viewing pleasure of both the icons and the building."

The Modern Icons, Ancient Inspiration exhibition will continue through November 21, 2009.

Members meet on a regular basis to conduct sky viewing sessions (weather permitting) and informal lectures or discussions of current events and topics in astronomy, space science, observational equipment, and telescope making.

Founded in 1932, AAS was named in honor of the late Professor Fred Aldrich of Worcester Academy, who was a long time promoter and lecturer of astronomy in the Worcester area. Derek brings with him some very talented musicians. Damaris Woods has won more than her fair share of Irish titles as a musician. She has been a sensation since childhood, an extremely sought after studio musician, and more importantly, a master teacher of many instruments in Ireland. She is considered one of the finest banjo players touring today. Padraig Allen is a singer/songwriter and hales from Irelands famous musical Allen family. He is a talented showman who is comfortable on stage and has played in front of the biggest festival crowds America has to offer. Jim Woods, brother to Damaris, has a stack of music awards himself and is also dedicated to teaching the tradition of music. He is quite at home on the accordion among other instruments. He has toured with Altan, Andy Cooney, Liz Doherty, and recorded with countless others. These young talented musicians join the legendary Derek Warfield as The Young Wolfe Tones to inherit a musical legacy, to carry around the world, the banner of Ireland, her patriots, her love of music, and the stories her music tells. Clark University: Little Center, Michelson Theater, 950 Main Street, Worcester, MA
A play sparked by the April 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, columbinus is a meeting of fact and fiction that illuminates the realities of adolescent culture by exploring the events surrounding the shootings. The play weaves together excerpts from discussions with parents, survivors and community leaders in Littleton as well as police evidence to bring to light the dark recesses of American adolescence. When columbinus premiered in 2005 at the Round House Theatre, Peter Marks of the Washington Post called it, "An ambitious examination of the suburbanization of evil," and the play went on to receive five Helen Hayes Award nominations including the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play. Following the off-Broadway opening at New York Theatre Workshop one year later, Variety proclaimed, "This one comes straight from the gut, a wrenching return to the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in which 12 students and a teacher were killed when two senior classmates went on a shooting rampage. The United States Theatre Project's smart and sensitive treatment of the event, which traumatized a suburban Colorado community and shocked the entire country, stirs up thought and feeling in this clean ensemble production, drawn from interviews, public records and the private diaries of the shooters."
